Our members explore how economic, political, and institutional forces\u2014shaped by factors such as race, class, gender, and place\u2014contribute to persistent inequality and disadvantage in rural communities.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"953\" data-end=\"1253\">We support critical, interdisciplinary research and dialogue aimed at informing more equitable and effective policies. We:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1415\" data-end=\"2022\">\n<li data-start=\"1415\" data-end=\"1597\">\n<p data-start=\"1417\" data-end=\"1597\">Host sessions at the RSS Annual Meeting that explore the multifaceted nature of rural poverty, including housing, food insecurity, labor markets, environmental justice, and more.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1598\" data-end=\"1732\">\n<p data-start=\"1600\" data-end=\"1732\">Promote interdisciplinary approaches and frameworks that examine rural poverty through historical, political, and economic lenses.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1733\" data-end=\"1878\">\n<p data-start=\"1735\" data-end=\"1878\">Encourage the participation of early-career scholars, students, and community-based researchers through mentorship and inclusive programming.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1879\" data-end=\"2022\">\n<p data-start=\"1881\" data-end=\"2022\">Support efforts to translate research into practical strategies for addressing rural poverty through policy, practice, and public engagement.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2024\" data-end=\"2326\">To get involved, select the Rural Poverty RIG when renewing or starting your RSS membership.
